| Remarks | This spruce is a smaller tree than P. alba + occurs in all sphagnous marshy localities from the Yukon west for more than 180 miles. The wood is darker harder and closer grained than P. alba. The cones are persistent and in many cases eventually become imbedded in the tree. The bark is more reddish than P. alba and more inclined to scale off. The wood makes both better lumber and better fuel than P. alba. |
