RemarksVery slender palm attaining 6 m. with stem diameter of 5-6 cm., leaf scars broad; leaves usually ca. 6, spreading, petiole ca. 60 cm. long, lamina 1.5 m., pinnae 16-20 each side of rachis, scattered towards base, nearly opposite towards apex, leaf sheath 45 cm. long, striate, sprinkled with loose gray mealy tomentum, a broad yellow strip on upper part 8-10 cm.; inflorescence 2 panicles close below leaves, divaricate, ca. 60 cm. long & broad, with 10-12 lateral branches; seed eaten as a substitute for betel-nut; common. = Ptychosperma salomonense Burret, det.
