Determined byKeck, David Daniels

Annotation TextThis sheet is an exact match of the one in Lindley's herbarium labelled "P. glandulosa ß incisa B.R. 1973", supposedly in Lindley's hand, and "California, Douglas." The description in Bot. Reg. 23: 1973, however, applies to some form of Potentilla glandulosa as does the figure. The description is

Descriptiononly seven words long and I suspect the artist may have been instructed to draw up the flowers from some previous plates lacking proper flowers at the time. However it was, the specimen Lindley preserved for his new variety prove to be Horkelia frondosa.

RemarksContrary to Keck's understanding, Lindley's herbarium is at CGE (not BM), where there are two specimens labelled Potentilla glandulosa ß incisa B.R. 1973. While one is Horkelia californica var. frondosa (the same as this sheet), the other is in fact Potentilla glandulosa s.l. (= Drymocallis glabrata) and a good match for the published illustration. The latter is the obvous lectotype, not the specimen referred to by Keck. B. J. Ertter, 2013
