Notes made by C. E. Wood, Jr., from fresh material of this collection sent by Dr. Baldwin: Leaves and bracts tan (dead-leaf color), scarious; stems almost white below with dark, blackish brown scale leaves, shading upward to dark violet-maroon; petals dark, dull violet-maroon, bordered with white; stigma infundibuliform, white to violet; ovary reddish violet. Stems and corollas fleshy.
