Remarks["Collected in Lincoln since on the date of collection Thoreau's Journal xii 185 clarifies "Scirpus planifolius in bloom on Smith's wooded hill, side of Saw Mill Brook." Smith's Hill is in Lincoln, the southern part close to Saw Mill Brook. A small pond exists near the source of the brook and by the hill to the present day which might be the same one referred to on the label." R. L. Angelo, in litt. 28 August 2018. "This was probably collected in Lincoln not far from Concord line. In Thoreau's Journal xii: 125 'To Hunt's Pond (a sandy pond) ...in flower on Smith's wooded hill, side of Sawmill Brook.' The entry is dated 11 May 1859; Sawmill Brook is a tributary of Mill Brook flowing north from near the northerly shore of Flint's Pond." RJ Eaton '68]
