Remarkswithin the protologue, Jones cited: "Type specimens in the National Herbarium . Dr. Palmer Chihuahua, Mexico, 1885; Pringle same, by streams in the Sierra Madre Mountains, September 23, No. 1219." Barneby (Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 13: 183. 1964) recognized the Palmer's collection as the HT. and Pringle's collection as the paratype.
