Remarks[#156] [“6 Sept. . . I find small grapes a third of an inch in diameter, many ripe, on the bank of the Connecticut, - pleasantly acid. Clusters three to four or five inches long. The leaves are sharply toothed and green on both sides. Is it the Vitis cordifolia?” “Sept. 7. . . Up the bank of the Connecticut to West River . . Vitis cordifolius (?) (now beginning to be ripe) are quite common along the bank.” Journal 9: 64, 66. 1856]
