FamilyAsteraceae
Type Status Holotype
Holotype of Haplopappus stenophyllus A. Gray
Verified byD. E. Boufford
Determination RemarksComment on the type status of the Wilkes Expedition collection affixed to GH 8703. H. M. Hall (1928) seems to have followed the tradition of attributing to GH Gray's type when he recorded as the [holo]type the specimen of Haplopappus stenophyllus deposited in GH. (There are duplicates of the type of H. stenophyllus at and US, which Hall almost certainly also saw.)[see label text in determination field for part 2]
Taxon Reference(for Haplopappus stenophyllus A. Gray) U.S. Expl. Exped., Phan. Pacific N. Amer. 1874. 347.
FamilyAsteraceae
Determination Nestotus stenophyllus (A. Gray) R. P. Roberts, Urbatsch & Neubig
Determined byC. A. Morse
Date Determined2006
Determination Remarks [current name]
Annotation TextI have also followed this tradition in annotating the GH specimen as the holotype, even though I find no indication in Gray (1874) as to which specimen the author intended as the type. I suppose it could be argued that Hall's subsequent selection is really an inadvertant lectotypification of the specimen at GH. + the second dupl. is at K, Hall may not have seen this. ---Caleb. A.
