Remarks [collector note: Massachusetts][Obituary: http://archive.southcoasttoday.com/daily/03-99/03-20-99/zzzddobi.htm "Dr. Emil F. Guba, 101, a New Bedford native [...], died on Tuesday, March 16, 1999. [...] A graduate of New Bedford High School, the Massachusetts Agricultural College (the future University of Masschusetts, where he earned is bachelor's degree in 1919), and the University of Illinois, where he earned his doctorate in 1923, Dr. Guba specialized in plant pathology, the study of farm crop diseases, and mycology, the study of fungi affecting plants. Dr. Guba spent two years on the staff of the plant pathology department at Cornell University before joining the Massachusetts Agricultural College's Market Garden Field Station in 1925. He joined the university as an assistant professor and was promoted to full professor in 1939. He was honored with the distinction of commonwealth professor in recognition of his exemplary work."]
